About Us

Area L AHEC (Area Health Education Center) and Turning Point Workforce Development Board share a five-county (Edgecombe, Halifax, Nash, Northampton and Wilson counties). This is a medically underserved region that faces many other challenges including job losses and high unemployment. The population of healthcare professionals practicing in the region does not reflect the population seeking healthcare. In particular there have been identified six allied health disciplines that are in severe shortage. These high demand jobs pay above average wages and most require less than a four-year degree.

Area L AHEC and the Turning Point Workforce Development Board have partnered with the Community Colleges, units of local government, healthcare employers and others to address this job shortage area. Our goal is to create a pipeline that will make connections between job seekers, education providers and employers.

Through this website, we offer information on careers in Allied Health, particularly those six that are in greatest demand, job posting in these six areas, and training opportunities for those who are interested in working in this high-growth sector.
